Abstract

Introduction: Having general health in people is as important as having a healthy body. The purpose of this study was to compare the general health among male and female athlete and non-athlete female students of Mohaghegh Ardebil University. Methods:40 healthy male students and 40 healthy female students participated in this study in two athletic and non-athletic groups. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) was used. Data was analyzed using Spss software and the Shapiro-wilk test confirmed the normality of the data. Independent t-test was used for statistical analysis. Alpha level is set to p <0.05. Results:There was no significant difference between the comparison groups (49.92 ± 11.10 male athletes in the athlete group 37.50 ± 17.19), compared to non-athlete groups (P = 0.001 and P = 0.004). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the non-athlete group (P > 0.05). Conclusion:Despite the similar general health in male and female athlete students, the general health of boys was better than that of non-athlete girls. Therefore exercise can play a significant role in the general health of the community
