Abstract

Research Aim: The purpose of this thesis is to study the new point-based methods of designing computer-generated 3D holograms. Research method: In point-based methods of computer hologram designing, the three-dimensional object is divided into its constituent points. Then the diffracted field of each point is calculated on the hologram plane. Summing the calculated fields result in the hologram of the object. Findings: The main drawback of the point-based methods te design a computer-generated hologram is their high amount of computations which increase the computational time. Therefore many methods have been proposed to decrease the computational time including the various Look-up tables methods and special computer hardware. The details of these methods are discussed. Conclusion: The hologram of a three-dimensional object is designed using the point-based method. The time of computation and the quality of the reconstructed image is high comparing the plane–based methods.
