Abstract

Research Aim: The purpose of this research is to investigate three–dimensional computer-generated hologram designing methods by focusing on the layer–based methods. Research method: In layer-based methods, the 3D object is subdivided into different layers, and the field distribution of each layer in the hologram is calculated using the field propagation methods. The angular spectrum propagation method is used to calculate the field distribution. The summation of fields of all layers yields the desired hologram. Then the reconstructed field is calculated numerically using the angular spectral propagation method. The designed hologram is also transmitted to a Spatial Light Modulator and the 3D Image of the object is reconstructed by illuminating the laser beam on it. Findings: The phrase ”University of Mohaghegh Ardabili” with 3-dimensional distribution is used as an example and its hologram is designed using the layer-based method and the image is reconstructed numerically and experimentally. Conclusion: The layer-based method for designing the computer-generated holograms was studied and a hologram was designed from a three-dimensional distribution.
