Abstract

Following the growing urban population, unpreparedness of urban areas to meet the needs of society, vision and planning processes of sections leads to serious economic, social, environmental and physical problems. These problems have forced city administrators to seek the improvement of current situation in terms of new global ideas and solutions. Accordingly, city development strategy (CDS) was formed by the City Alliance to solve some of these issues. City development strategy is focused primarily on economic growth and poverty reduction, and in this way, paves the way for urban sustainable and comprehensive development. The purpose of this research is to achieve sustainable urban development using urban development strategy. Analytical method is used to achieve the research objectives and the data required is collected in documentary and field forms. The experimental data (questionnaire and observation) of the study is obtained from the survey conducted in 2015 in the city of Behshahr. The population in this study include the population living in the city of Behshahr (89,000 according to the 2011 census), where the sample population is calculated 380 questionnaires using Cochran sampling method. 50 urban experts in the city of Behshahr were chosen as sample and their feedbacks were used in this study. Statistical test has been identified according to the purposes of the study (one sample t-test and Spearman and Friedman test) and the data and hypotheses have been analyzed. The results show that the situation in the city of Behshahr is in an unfavorable CDS indices and there is a significant and direct correlation between CDS and sustainable development indexes, and increasing and improving the CDS indices also increase the sustainable situation development in the city.
