Abstract

Surface tension of the liquids and mixtures is one of the most important physical properties to design the chemical units. Researchers are interested to find an accurate equation to predict the surface tension at different temperatures and concentrations. In this thesis, surface tension of some binary systems (aqueous and non-aqueous) was determined theoretically and several water systems were measured experimentally. A new modified model was proposed to predict the surface tension based on the thermodynamic definition of the surface tension using Gibbs free energy of the system. The well known Wilson equation was used to represent the excess Gibbs free energy and a four-parameter surface tension equation for a binary system is derived. The obtained model was evaluated to predict the surface tension of 30 experimmentaly binary aqueous systems. Furthermore, to demonstrate widespread application of this model, 100 binary systems of polar, non-polar, aqueous and non-aqueous, reported in the literature, was analysed. The prediction performance compared to the Wang-Fu, Wright & Connors and Chunxi et al. by calculating the mean relative standard deviation (MRSD(%)) between the calculated and experimental values. According to the results, the new model reveals the best prediction among other models. Persian Abstract: كشش¬سطحي از خواص فيزيكي مهم در طراحي فرآيند¬هاي شيميايي است كه باعث پيوستگي بين مولكول¬هاي مايع مي¬شود و اثر نيرو¬هاي بين مولكولي را منعكس مي¬كند بر همين اساس دقت پيش¬بيني اين خاصيت در دماها و غلظت¬هاي مختلف همواره مورد توجه محققين بوده است. در اين پايان¬نامه كشش سطحي سيستم¬هاي دو جزئي آبي و غيرآبي به صورت تئوري و آزمايشگاهي مورد بررسي قرار گرفته¬اند. در بخش تئوري مدل اصلاح¬شده¬ي جديدي براي پيش¬بيني تئوري كشش¬سطحي مخلوط¬هاي دو¬جزئي براساس تعريف ترموديناميكي با استفاده از انرژي آزاد گيبس پيشنهاد شد. براي بيان انرژي آزاد گيبس اضافي از معادله¬ي ويلسون استفاده گرديد و يك معادله چهارپارامتري براي سيستم¬هاي دو جزئي بدست آمد. اين مدل براي پيش¬بيني كشش¬سطحي 30 سيستم آبي دو جزئي اندازه¬گيري شده در اين پايان¬نامه و براي انواع مختلفي از سيستم¬هاي آبي و غيرآبي، گزارش شده در مقالات به كاربرده شد. عملكرد مدل حاضر در مقايسه با مدل¬هاي Wang-Fu، Wang-Chen،Wright Connors & و Chunxi et al. از طريق محاسبه¬ي درصد انحراف استاندارد نسبي متوسط (MRSD(%)) بين مقادير محاسبه شده و مقادير تجربي مورد بررسي قرار گرفت. نتايج به-دست آمده نشان داد كه مدل اصلاح شده بهترين عملكرد را نسبت به مدل¬هاي مورد بررسي دارد. كليد واژه¬ها: كشش¬سطحي، مدل ترموديناميكي، مخلوط مايع دو جزئي، انرژي آزاد گيبس، روش صفحه¬ي ويلهلمي
