Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify job stressors and teacher’s coping behaviors in the city of Tehran. The method that has been used in this study was survey. The statistical population of the study was all teachers in the city of Tehran. 387 Samples of this study were selected with randomized and categorized method. To collect data, a researcher-made questionnaire (combining the standard questionnaire of Holmes and Rahe job stressors with consideration of the socio-cultural status of the population) was used. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percent, and graph) and inferential statistics including t-test and ANOVA were used to describe and analyze the data. The results showed that among the 50 stressors that were studied, the highest stressors of teachers were 1) lack of salary 2) high quantity of students in class and 3) educational problems of students due to wrong parenting education. Also, the high frequency of teaching staff, engaging with different beliefs at work and the negative attitude of the spouse toward the occupation were the lowest stressors in the teachers.The coping strategies were evaluated from the Mouse and Bouldings coping strategies questionnaire (1981). Out of the 26 behavioral coping strategies, three factors of "I try to use my past experiences", with 69.1%, " I try to know more about the situation that I am in (to increase my information) " with 65.4% and " I try to use problem-solving step-by-step method” with 62.9% were used with more frequency. Vilification to everyone and everything with 2%, getting anxious with 2.2% and trying to eat more with 2.7% were used by participants with the least frequency.
