Abstract

The present study aims to determine the effectiveness of reality therapy on bullying¬behaviors,¬emotional¬self-regulation and educational self-regulation of students. This research was carried out using a pre-test-pre-test design and¬control¬group in a semi-experimental manner. The statistical population of the study included all the male students of Tenth grade of Mamasani County¬(in¬school year 2017-2018),¬and¬statistical¬sample¬included¬30 students who had been selected by a multi stage¬cluster sampling. They were¬divided -randomly ¬into ¬two¬¬experimental¬and¬control¬groups.¬ Experimental group participated in eight 60-minute training based on reality therapy approach, and control group did not receive any interruption. In order to collect required data, Illinois Bullying Criterion (2001), Hoffman and Kashdan’s Emotional Styles Questionnaire (2010) and Bufard and his colleagues’ Educational Self-regulation Questionnaire (1995). To analyze data, descriptive statistics and multiple variance analysis (MANOVA) were used and data were analyzed using SPSS 21 software. The findings of this study indicated that the effectiveness of reality therapy is significant and meaningful (p <0.001) on bullying behaviors, emotional self-regulation and educational self-regulation of students. Therefore, it can be concluded that training reality therapy led to a reduction in bullying behaviors, more desirable emotional regulation and more educational self-regulation of students. This is of great importance regarding the role of school,¬especially the teachers and school advisers, and the implementation of workshops and training¬courses, as well as the presentation¬of consulting programs.
