Abstract

Aggregation of þ-amyloid peptides in the form of senile plaques is an essential step in the development of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). The major component of these plaques is the Aþ(1-42) peptide. Understanding the monomer structure of Aþ peptide and its aggregation mechanism is crucial in the treatment of AD. In general, it is believed that a major step in the aggregation mechanism is an alpha-to-beta conformational change in Aþ peptides. However, the conformational changes required to produce experimental conformations is not yet completely understood. Molecular simulation is a useful technique for investigating of these conformational changes
