Abstract

Gas (clathrate) hydrates are nonstoichiometric compounds consisting of non- hydrogen bonding guest molecules and host water molecules which from a hydrogen- bonded network accommodating guest molecules. The open clathrate hydrate structures are stable only in the presence of guest molecules. Depending on the properties of the guest gas molecules and the details of hydrate formation procedure, different gas hydrate structures can be obtained, the most important structures being structure I (sI), structure II (sII) , and structure H (sH).
