Abstract

The relationship between dielectric permittivity and molecular properties has long been an objective of dielectric studies. By using electric permittivity, density and refractive index measurements, it is possible to obtain the electric dipole moment with the aim of giving valuable information about the geometrical structure of molecules, molecular association and dipole-dipole interactions. In the present study, we intend to use the dielectric method to investigate the molecular interaction between benzyl alcohol in non-polar solvent namely cyclohexane. Interaction between the polar solute and a non-polar solvent may be considered by a modification of the Kirkwood – Froehlich correlation factor (g), which takes into account interaction between the solvent molecules among themselves. The strength of the molecular association depends on several factors including the molecular structure, temperature, solvent and other factors. The dipole moments of the materials were also measured in cyclohexane using the Guggenheim method.
