Abstract

Binding porphyrins to the simplest models for membranes (surfactants micelles) has attracted much interest due to the possibility of understanding these biological processes. Micelles, microemulsions and vesicles constitute a very active area of investigation for the manifold implications in chemistry, physics, biology and materials sciences [1]. In supramolecular chemistry, such organized noncovalent assemblies have been exploited to mimic membrane behavior [2,3], taking advantage of their propensity to entrap or compartmentalize different species, leading in some cases to a high degree of organization and, to create gradients of concentration
