Abstract

In urban environments the microclimate and personal well-being are intensely influenced by the wind conditions, which in flow are dramatically affected by high residential buildings and other man-made structures. Therefore, it is necessary to use the species with sufficient strength and environmental aesthetics values. Also, it is necessary to find the best pattern of windbreak design in order to provide maximum decrease in wind velocity.The efficiency of trees depended on porosity, number of tree rows, gap distance between trees, and crown shape.Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is able to visualize the conditions of the artificial environment in the real environment and examine the properties of the air flowing around the windbreaks as mentioned in this study.The current study numerically investigates the effect of Fraxinus Excelsiortree with round canopy form on wind speed reduction.The results show that the percentage of wind velocity decrease at 0.50, 0.75 and 1 m gap distance of one row trees at 3 m above ground and 16 m at leeward of the windbreaks is 21.6%, 23.8%, and 9.2%, respectively, and the 0.50 m gap distance between single-row trees protects a wider area behind the windbreaker from the unpleasant effects of wind.
