Abstract

In this study, pedigree file and records related to reproductive traits of Baluchi sheep breeding station in north east of country were used to estimate heritability and variance components of reproductive traits. The model included fixed effects of sex of lamb, herd-year-season, type of birth, dam age at lambing and also random effects due to animal direct additive genetic effects and permanent environmental. The variance components and heritability of traits were estimated by using restricted maximum likelihood method of the WOMBAT program and single trait animal model. Estimates of heritability for litter size at birth, litter size at weaning, litter mean weight per lamb born, litter mean weight per lamb weaned, total litter weight at birth per ewe lambing and total litter weight at weaning per ewe lambing were 0.01 to 0.03, 0.22 to 0.05, 0.12 and 0.01, respectively.
