Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the medical plants mixture and organic acid feeding on dry matter intake and growth performance of Moghani growing male lambs. In this experiment, 30 male lambs were randomly assigned to a factorial design (3×2) with 6 treatments and 5 replicates for 12 weeks. Experimental treatments included: 1) Control (Basal diet), 2) basal diet + 2 g organic acid day/head, 3) basal diet + 2% medical plant mixture per kg of dry matter intake, 4) basal diet + 4% medical plant mixture Per kg of dry matter intake, 5) basal diet + 2% medical plant mixture Per kg of dry matter intake + 2 g organic acid day/head, 6) basal diet + 4% medical plant mixture Per kg of dry matter intake + 2 g organic acid day/head. Daily feed intake of lambs in each treatment was measured to calculate the amount of dry matter consumed during the whole period. Moreover, to obtain lambs daily weight gain and the weight gain during the whole experimental period, all lambs were weighed once fortnightly after 14-hours of Hunger. Based on dry matter intake and weight gain on whole period, feed conversion ratio (FCR) was calculated. The results showed that weight gain on the whole period in treatment 6 was significantly higher than control and the rest of treatment groups, and the daily weight gain in treatment 6 was significantly higher than control and treatments 2 and 4 (p< 0.05). Generally, the results of this study showed that addition of a mixture of medical plants and organic acid to the basal diet had no effect on feed intake and feed conversion ratio (p< 0.05).
