Abstract

Although science says genetically modified (GM) foods are safe, many consumers are skeptical of the technology. In addition, the scientific community has difficulty communicating with people and causes consumers make unwise decisions. Further research needs to be done to investigate what factors affect their attitudes toward transgenic foods. The purpose of this study was to investigate students' perceptions of the impact of field and educational background and other factors on their attitude toward transgenic foods. This research was applied in terms of purpose, data collection, descriptive-correlational and quantitative (using questionnaire) among graduate students of agriculture fields of Mohaghegh Ardabili University as a sample of 186 students among 600 ones. A clustered random sampling method was used to test the research hypotheses using a structural equation modeling approach over a three-month period. It was found that biotechnology-related disciplines had a major impact on students' attitudes toward transgenic foods, But their secondary information source was of limited importance. During the survey, most participants stated that they would like to know more about this technology.
