Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the attitude of Jihad agriculture employees towards transgenic crops through a survey. The statistical population of this study was employees with bachelor's degree or higher of Agricultural Jihad Organization of Ardabil province (N=432). The sample size was 210 persons, using two-stage stratified sampling method based on degree, field and academic orientation in the organization and affiliate offices were broadcast. Data were collected by a questionnaire whose physical and content validity were confirmed by experts, and its reliability was confirmed by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient and related guidelines. Findings indicated that the information of the study staff about the advantages or disadvantages of consuming transgenic products was moderate. Using cluster analysis based on the amount of agreement or disagreement, the employees were divided into three groups (proponents, impartials and opponents). The findings showed that employees opposed to the use of transgenic products had lower benefits and higher health risks for these products and had a more negative attitude toward using new technologies and considered the production of transgenic products to be profitable and contrary to community health and well-being. Also, sequential regression was used to evaluate the ability of each of the independent variables of the research in explaining the opinions of the employees in the three clusters. The results showed that these independent variables were able to explain a total of 23% of the variance in the perception of disagreement or agreement among the employees studied.
