Abstract

In this study effects of ethanol extract of Cupressus Arizonica during developmental stage of Beet army worm, Spodoptera exigua was investigated. Extraction carried out by maceration method using ethanol 96% as solvent at 2 weeks. Different concentration of leaves extract (0.05-13.75 g/l) incorporated in artificial diet provided to 1st larval instars of S. exigua. Daily mortality recorded until emergence of adults in all treatments. The results revealed that, mortality increased with increasing the exposure time. Larval life span increased specially in high concentration of extract and reached 15.13, 14.45 and 13.68 days (in comparison with 12.43 days in controls). Rate of pupation decreased with increasing in extracts concentration and decreased to 33.97% in highest. Adult’s emergence rate decreased in comparing with controls (13.68% in highest concentration). Pupal mortality rate increased in relation with extract concentration and recorded as 20.29% in highest concentration (13.75 g/l). It seems that, the time is important factor in affecting C. Arizonica extract on biological parameters of beet army worm.
