Abstract

The increasing fuel consumption and scarcity of world oil supply have made the international community think of an alternative to oil supply. On the other hand, in the agricultural sector, several million tons of waste are produced annually, which can be used in various ways. Production of biofuels from plant biomass is a method that has been widely used and developed in developed and developing countries around the world. In order to produce biofuels from plant biomass, pre-treatments must be done to convert biomass to fuel with the highest efficiency. Various pretreatment methods have been proposed and tested, including acid pretreatment, alkaline pretreatment, steam explosion, microwave, etc., in which this article reviews the advantages and disadvantages of each method.
