Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavioral characteristics of land use in Talar watershed, Mazandaran province. In order to achieving the research purposes, Landsat satellite images (TM and OLI sensors) were obtained from the relevant references during the years of 1989, 2000, and 2014. Signatures of land use classes were collected by field surveys and the utilization of TCC and FCC of used satellite images. In the next step, land use maps were produced by SVM algorithm and ENVI software. The accuracy assessment of prepared land use maps were performed using Kappa coefficient and overall accuracy. Landscape metrics of Class Area (CA), Shape Index (SHAPE), number of Patch (NP) and edge density (ED) were extracted using Fragstats software in each land use class and its changes were investigated. Based on the results, Kappa coefficient of land use maps was calculated 0.87, 0.86 and 0.85 in studied years, respectively. Also, the area of forest and rangelands land uses decreased and the land uses of dry farming, irrigated farming, orchard, and residential area increased. In addition,the highest amount of SHAPE index was obtained for rangeland and forest land uses. The findings of this research can draw the land use behavior of Talar watershed in order to be considered in regional planning and policy making.
