Abstract

In recent decades, due to the destructive side effects of some chemical drugs, people have turned to the use of medicinal plants. But in Iran in spite of high production, Its consumption has not spread much. Approach to increasing the use of medicinal plants and their products, has obvious the role of these plants in the global economic cycle. Therefore, this study aimed to identify factors influencing the use of medicinal plants among households in the city of Tabriz. Data and information required by field survey, a random stratified sampling design and questionnaire to 189 families residing in the city of Tabriz, was collected in 2013. To achieve the goal, Ordered Logit Model was used. The results of the model indicate that factors such as the level of health measures in households, knowledge of the medicinal properties of herbs and attitudes of households, have significant positive effect and education level of householder, has significant negative effect on the use of medicinal plants by family. The result is a major cause of medicinal plants consumption among the respondents is «lack of side effects and natural herbs». Likewise, The major obstacle to use medicinal plants among the households is «lack of familiarity with medicinal plants properties».
