Abstract

In this study the relationship between religious attitude and commitment with attitude toward heterosexual relationships and sense of social security in female university students was investigated. This is a descriptive correlational study and the statistical population included all female students of Mohaghegh Ardabili university. To this end, several colleges and a sample of 100 students were selected by random cluster sampling. The Khodayari’s religious attitude, Janbozorgi’s religious commitment, Kordlou’s attitude toward heterosexual relationships and Maleki’s sense of social security questionnaires were used as research tools. The results from Pearson correlation coefficient showed that there is a significant and negative relationship between religious attitude and religious commitment with attitude toward opposite sex relationship and sense of social security. Also, religious attitude and religious commitment predict attitude toward opposite sex relationship and sense of social security. These results support the need for greater attention to religious beliefs and religious commitment in students.
