Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of concentrate supplementation on growth performance of weaned Moghani and Romanov-Moghani crossbreed female lambs under pasture conditions. This experiment was conducted by using 32 female Moghani and Romanov-Moghani lamb (average weight 24±7 kg) in a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 2 × 2 factorial arrangment. The treatments in this study were: 1) Moghani lamb without supplemental feeding of concentrates 2) Moghani Lamb with 250 gr per lamb of a concentrate supplement per day 3) Romanov-Moghani lamb without supplemental feeding of concentrates 4) Romanov-Moghani Lamb with 250 gr per lamb of a concentrate supplement per day. The results showed that feeding concentrate supplement improved the daily weight change significantly (p<0/01). Which had a significant effect on the first month and the whole period of nutrition (p <0.01) and in the third month also had a significant effect (P <0.05) But genotype did not affect growth performance (p<0/05). The effect of concentrate supplementation on the diet of lambs in the grazing period was also effective in feeding without feeding, so that the nutritional effect of all months without feeding had a significant effect on lamb's growth (p <0.01). Also, the effect of genotype in the 4th month and the change in total body weight had a significant effect (P <0.01), and also in the fifth and seventh months, had a significant effect on growth of lambs (P <0.05). Supplemental concentrate feeding had significant effect on blood glucose and urea concentrations (P<0/01). However, there was no significant effect on total protein, triglyceride and cholesterol parameters (P> 0.05). Genotype factor had significant effect on urea concentration. Based on results, feeding of concentrate supplement improved some blood parameters of female lambs and animal genotype influenced some blood metabolites such as urea. Among different growth traits, the HW of the animal was significantly affected by nutrition and the interaction of genotype × nutrition (P <0.05). As well as parameters of HG was affected by genotype × nutrition (P <0.05). By feeding the supplemented concentrate during the period of poor nutrition in pasture, the growth traits in the unhealthy period had a significant effect on body length parameters, chest circumference, height and width of the pins (P <0.01), as well as the effect Genotype was effective in height parameter (P <0.01). Based on obtained results, feeding at least 250 gr of concentrate supplement, under pasture, was recommended for female Moghani and Romanov – Moghani lambs.
