Abstract

The increase in demand for resources from one hand and resource constraints, effects of emerging phenomena such as climate change, dust storms and etc. from the other hand has necessitated an integrated watershed management programs. Establishing a work organization with specific goals and objectives is a way to achieve an integrated watershed management. To this end, the present pilot study, in line with one of main aims of the National Mega-project on Integrated Watershed Management which intends to explore out an appropriate management organisation for integrated watershed management, has been carried out for the ChehelChai watershed, a subwatershed of the GorganRoud river basin. Based on the survey and analysis of questionnaires that elicited the viewpoints of experts, a Watershed Management Work Organization was proposed at four levels of national, provincial, township and rural district. The president will chair the organisation. According to the work organization of watershed management, the organization work of the Chehelchai watershed starts from the township level. Therefore, the governor of Minoodasht town as the head of the Chehelchai integrated watershed management organisation and the representative or chairman of related governmental departments and offices and private organizations are members of the proposed work organization at the this watershed. Since, this watershed is located within the jurisdiction of the Minoodasht and Kohsarat districts, at the rural district level, the Minoodasht district head will act as the manager of CH2 and CH3 sub watershed and the Kohsarat district head will act as the manager of the CH1 sub watershed.
